Short description of the project:

The aim of the Smart City LIVING project is to develop innovative services and products that will enable the exploitation of the potential and data from a smart city to manage the movement of residents and tourists and the dynamics of life in the city. This “smart” idea in CEKOM seeks to connect directly with citizens and life in the city and by moving residents and visitors and thus adding direct value to citizens.

The developed system would collect data from a variety of sources, such as anonymous data from a telecom operator’s mobile network, other CECOM projects, and micro sensors (beacons) and other sensors (such as RFID tags) located at locations where citizens are moving. It is necessary to develop an algorithm that will help to determine which information about movement belongs to the local population and to foreign nationals.

In order to draw conclusions and recommendations on optimal routes and times of movement between points in the city, based on population movement data, it is necessary to develop models and algorithms to create such knowledge.

In addition to data on population movements, the system will also collect data on the time and location of traffic accidents, theft, misdemeanor and other criminal events in the city of Rijeka (eg based on the data MIA) and other publicly available sources.

With the data and knowledge thus gathered, an application will be developed that will propose optimum routes and times of movement, taking into account the user’s preferences, and the functionality of the voice guidance of the population will also be developed. For points that are both historical and cultural sites, commercial centers, green markets and other places of citizen gathering, users will, when approaching or passing through the same, receive an application with information about its most important features, which would make the movement and destination of the city interesting and interesting , and not only faster and more efficient.

In order to bring the project results closer to as large a number of citizens, research and development would be carried out in which selected parts of fixed broadband infrastructure (existing techno-obsolete telephone booths) will be developed into innovative multifunctional viewfinderispoints with large screens to disseminate the results and other projects of this CEKOM. In addition, these pointers would be developed in such a way that they have integrated sensors for measuring air parameters, safety and other metering parameters that will serve as inputs into other CEKOM and camera projects, and the sustainability of the multifunctional infocentric piston would be ensured “Vending” machines with the option of buying tickets and other digital goods and options for “proximity” marketing on the infopunk display.

Points of contact for the project with citizens in the area of ​​Rijeka:

Multifunction info points at selected places of the former telephone booths with the following functionality: sensor module on the roof, Wi Fi, “vending machine”, telephone booth, USB charging, large data display display, keyboard for interaction, surveillance camera.
Rijeka Radar – A download application that shows information about the current environment, events in Rijeka, a recommended path. The ability to enter a message into a hazardous or communal information application (eg, trash on the road)

The solution for smart traffic management in peak loads (during the tourist season) is set by analytical, prognostic and organizational decision support and tactical and operational actions based on modern information paradigms and cloud technology. The solution for smart traffic management in peak loads aims to:

– reduce road traffic and, at the same time, reduce the level of tourist stress in traffic (arrival / departure to destination)

– redirecting (individual tourists) to destinations with free accommodation capacities (corresponding categories)

– increase mobility and thus experience and spend the tourist on the destination by routing to the offers, attractions and destination services …

The expected effect of the implementation of the solution is the optimization of the traffic or travel of tourists to and from the destination (peak loads) based on real, current data and estimates and short-term and medium-term forecasts from the environment / market. It includes cooperation of all stakeholders through virtual collaboration platform and the use of all communication channels by targeted publics and in all phases of planning, traveling and vacation of tourists. The expected outcomes of the implementation of the solution will reduce the impact of traffic on the environment (ecological imprint) and the safety and quality of life of the population as well as on the increase of the effects of tourist destination traffic.

Expected long-term impacts from the implementation of traffic management solutions in peak loads relate to further increase of the competitiveness of the tourist sector (destination / RH) and maximization of profits

The solution for smart traffic management in peak loads consists of two subsystems:

– (sub) support system for planning and decision-making in destination management

– (sub) management system – operational effect on traffic optimization (but also achievement of other destination targets)
