The central development activity of the Modesty project is development of the Big Data system and a set of advanced analytical models. Information on data status in the environment and population activities will be collected in real time in order to obtain the most relevant sample of data for the research purposes. Thus, this project is creating a platform for cooperation between the city, industry, scientific community and population. In addition to the data from hardware sensors, the data on the movement and retention of residents will be collected from the mobile network operators and integrated with the city of Rijeka utilities (such as water, electricity, heating) to obtain timely and accurate information.
The aim of this project is a relation analysis between the population activity and industry and the state of environment, and the amount of energy consumed. The solutions resulting from the Modesty project will be based on the principle of platform as a service- a part of the information and analysis will be available to the citizens free of charge (the results are primarily intended for the smart city citizens and the city administration) and a part of the complex data sets, which business operators will further use in development of their products and services, will be offered in a form of fixed or variable fees.
The leading partner of the project is Combis, while Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Hrvatski Telekom, Exevio, and ioLAP are also involved in the project. The partners will develop a total of 11 products that will reach a level of readiness for commercialization in their development.
The results of this project are a platform for energy efficient management and a smart city monitoring in the Cloud, development of a portal for a smart city administrative management, and a portal for citizens with a graphical representation of the selected KPIs from the environment condition and energy consumption. A set of applications for citizens and business operators that gravitate towards the city of Rijeka will be developed, such as applications for the UV radiation, applications for residents with asthma or allergies with recommended routes and travel times, an application for mapping the noise level in a smart city that is in accordance with the EU directive, an application for energy consumption in public buildings, a traffic routing application that also suggests the safest routes to navigate at night based on the data on pedestrian traffic density, etc. Furthermore, through the application for citizens based on which environmentally unacceptable events, or the positive ones will be reported, the city will be able to award the most active citizens with points and possible prizes.
The relationship with citizens and entrepreneurs will be established through the Roads application, which will be a traffic assistant during the trip, the RiLive application, which brings all current data of public interest in one place (traffic, cameras, forecast, public transport status, cultural and artistic offers, or various sport events, etc.), and the e-tenders web application that informs entrepreneurs regarding the open local self-government tenders.
In addition to collecting the air quality data and making visualizations of the air pollution, modules that will be based on information from the HT network are also highlighted. Thus, for the individual locations, it will be possible to present a display of arrival/departure direction of visitors, as well as the speed of the same visitors, the time of day when the influx of visitors from certain directions is greatest, but also a report on the type of visitors to a particular location in a certain period of time, demographic distribution, on site retention time, etc. These data are useful for event planning and tourist destination management, and through Modesty, a tourist destination management system will be further developed, which will collect data on tourist behavior and offer predictive analysis that can be used by decision makers.
Since the analysis will use the data on population movements from the mobile network, as well as information on energy consumption obtained from the utility bills, a special room in the project development will take the growth of the system and algorithms for anonymization and the data grouping. The security of the data itself will be guaranteed and further ensured by the use of a security data center.
